Different Suspension Noise

Hello everyone. This is my first post on the forum but I've been here for awhile.

I have a 2007 LS 2.2l 5-speed stick. It is my first car and I love it! I got it in December of 2015 with 158000KMs; it now has 174000KMs on it. I have used this forum lots and appreciate all the information. I prefer to do most of the work myself.

Right now its Cold here in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I can't just go and fix it, but when it gets warm, I would like to solve my issue. I have searched throughout the site but haven't found anything like this.

I have an issue when accelerating while turning, there is a loud grinding/scraping noise coming from the front somewhere. It has come and gone as I replace parts in the front.

I have replaced the following as they were worn out:
  • Front and Rear Struts/Shocks
  • Sway-Bar end links (Some NASCAR brand) - Kal-Tire said they are bad so might replace again with moog
  • Complete Front and Rear brakes, incl rotors
  • Rims and Tires + Right LCA + Alignment by Kal-Tire
  • Other items - not suspension/drivetrain related

I have tried to shake the sway bar and it hasn't moved so I figured that it is okay.

Not sure where to go from here.

Thanks in advance!
Carl

Welcome to the site, have a close listen to the front end , it could be the front bearing hubs at that mileage

Thanks!

I thought maybe that as well, but the sound only appears when the clutch is out. If the wheel hub was the issue, wouldn't the sound exist all the time? It gets louder with more acceleration. It also seems to happen more based on temperature. In the summer, it is almost non-existent.

You should have mentioned, only when the clutch is out in your first post. It just might be a clutch issue!

I am confused; how does one accelerate with the clutch out?

I guess you mean the pedal out.

Yeah, I meant clutch pedal out. Accelerating through a turn. I don't think the clutch is the problem because it is only when turning. As it gets colder outside it becomes more frequent. Also gets louder as speed increases.

So what should I be looking for then? I just throw money at it and hope it goes away.

Do you believe that driving it like this can cause damage?

If the noise goes away with the clutch pedal pushed to the floor, that takes the load off the drive train so it could be in the transmission or the axle drive shafts. Have you checked the transmission fluid level? I have an automatic so I don't know if the stick shift has a drain on the transmission to see if there are metal shavings in it. I suspect an axle. You can get the front wheels off the ground and check for play. If it's an axle it will get progressively worse and it's relatively easy and not terribly expensive to replace. A transmission/differential is a bit more work and more expensive.
