Thanks for that info, fastsuv! I never heard of that before but, after two years, I still have trouble cleaning the inside of the windshield. I know vinegar is the best and smelliest. I'll have to try it.

Would window vents help this problem go away quicker?

There's not really much you can do to help the problem. Imagine the gas exiting the plastic on the dash and then rising up thru the air and depositing itself onto the inside of the windshield directly above the dash. I suppose if you parked it in the sun, kept both front windows open and then put a fan on the dash it would blow most of the outgassing out the window, but that's not really practical as you would have to do it for a long time (weeks? months?). Also, remember you're breathing this stuff too!

When I bought our travel trailer new a few years ago, it was outside in the hot sun for a few days and it was locked up. I went inside and immediately my eyes burned and my throat was irritated. It was the formaldehyde outgassing from the panelling, carpeting, and glues used in the manufacturing of the trailer. It took days of hot sun, open windows, and fans before you could go in without your eyes burning.

When hurricane Katrina hit a few years ago, FEMA bought thousands of trailers for temporary housing for the people to live in. They never knew or told them about the outgassing problem. Lots of people got sick. You can read about it in the media now.

All new plastic outgasses. It becomes a problem in closed small spaces especially when heat is applied (sun).
