So my doors started bubbling at the fold over lip about 2 years into owning this car. I let it go, sadly but this year I spoke to a body shop about the issue. He said I could spend a thousand bucks at his shop but it wouldn't fix the inherent design flaw. He suggested I soak the doors in oil to slow it down. The first door, I pulled the plug and poured in oil only to be trying to stop the flow from the drain holes with my finger. On the other side of the car, I siliconed the door drains and poured in the oil. The silicone is a pain to remove so I'd suggest just stuffing in a bit of rag in the hole to stem the flow of oil. Any thoughts?
The car has 35k with no winters but is bubbling in the bottom of all 4 doors.

Its a design flaw on models built before about mid 2009 when they improved the sealing of those seems. Unfortunately you live up in the "rust belt" so its going to bubble if you get road salt on it in the winter. If the door skins are removed and the corrosion is addressed, the repairs seem to hold up for the folks who had their doors fixed. Oiling the doors is a pain, but it will help slow down the spreading of the rust, but is won't stop it.

Talk to your dealer about the issue, GM has repaired this damage for other members under warranty/customer "Goodwill" programs.

You might even shoot a PM to Michelle at Chevrolet Customer Service.

 

Sadly, she's never seen a winter or road salt and it is still happening. Not to mention, I wash it 2x a week.
Grrr.

 

I had the same thing. I had a 2008-no problems. My 2009 has it. The dealer did "fix" it. It looks ok now, but I'm sure it will be back. They just did a grind and spray pretty much.

.it bothers me this car has been clearly babied all it's life you would swear it has under 10,000 miles.
I really need to get together with gm again on this to see If they can do something.
On my 07 I used a product called fluid film that is designed to go on thin like wd 40 then it thickens up like grease

Sorry to hear about the rust problem.
If you're washing it twice a week, then it pretty much stays wet or damp all the time. Doesn't help those problem areas if they are constantly being wetted. It doesn't get much chance for the moisture to dry up in those seams, hidden areas etc.

Great stuff! I use it on my snow plow to protect it as well as most other lubricating needs. Works great on chains for garage door openers for instance. Never sprayed it in my doors though, good thought. The only place locally I can find it is at John Deere dealers.

Fluid film rocks! Use it for sliding glass door tracks or door hinges, use it on the tumblers of locks to keep them turing properly. That stuff has a ton of uses around the house as well as around the "shop" or garage. Everyone needs a can of that and Kroil in their aresnal of chemicals.......

 

My 07 started to show signs of the bubbling when I traded it in. I'm glad I traded when I did.

LOL, you still kickin around here? Good, hope youre liking the new truck.

My doors were refinished 3 times until the bumper2bumper expired. Now Im gonna try the POR-15 on the inside and outside of the seam before repainting again, hopefully that and regular doses of rustcheck will help.
Ironically I see this most on well-cared for and often washed cars in the rust belt, probably due to keeping moisture in the seems as pointed out above.
