i haven't fooled with it any since i didn't get home from work till about 3:30am because of this. i will roll the windows down tomorrow and fiddle with it and see what i can find out.
if you have anything in your car that unlocks your door, your door will not unlock. Ok I tell you what happened to me. I put my purse in my car and locked my door, when I tried to unlock it it would not. So this happened once before. In my purse I have another key to my car. When the locksmith came car was unlocked, I took my purse out and locked the doors and the key in my hand worked. You can not have another key of car bottons in you car when locked ok. I took other key out and left it at home. It's never done it again.

Hi Only1, to the forums!!

You need to get the door panel off and see what's really wrong, because your thoughts are just not correct. It's just a matter of time before you're locked out again. How do you think the car knows that you have moved your spare key a few feet away from where it was? The key has a transponder chip that the car's computer recognizes and allows the engine to start. That's it, the key doesn't communicate in any other way.

Nether does the fob. Maybe you are not talking about a HHR. Maybe one of those "keyless start" cars, when you need to have some sort of key on your person in order to start the engine.

Just wanted to thank youse guys - sittin' here waitin' for AAA. I vaguely remembered this as an HHR issue - hope they can get one of the other doors open.
What I remeber was a family almost dying when their HHR's battery suddenly died in the desert and NONE of the doors could be unlocked. a could passerbys finally stopped and broke a window - a couple of the kids were passed out by them :'-(

I guess they were in too much of a panic to just pull the knob up? I wonder who makes these stories up?

When their battery suddenly crapped out ALL of the electric door locks ended up in this half way jammed state. :O
Here's one account of it:
My bad, they did not get them out the broken window(s), they had to use the Jaws of Life :O

Yes, the author even admits near the end that this is a fictional story. Some inaccuracies, the door lock knobs can be pulled up, even with a dead battery.

The authors choice of an HHR was so wrong, should have gone with a PT Cruiser and least same manufacturer as Christine!
