Drivers Side Mat Question

I have what may sound like a really odd question, so I figured what a better place to post it! :) I just(in the last week and a half) bought 2 used 2010 HHR LTs. With one car, everything was fine with the car inside and out(except a few rock dings and such). The other one was fine on the exterior(again some rock dings), but it is missing the hook to hold the mat in place. It's not broken off-it is literally missing(you can see right through the floor to what looks like a connection point underneath.

When I asked the dealer about it, they thought they would be able to just order the hook and put it in for me. They told me a day or two later that the hook it actually part of the rug and can't be replaced by itself-the whole rug would have to be replaced. And they won't do that-even though the car comes with a 12 month/12K mile bumper to bumper warranty and then the remaining factory warranty up to the 5 year/100K from there.

What I would like to know is does anyone know of a way to replace the hook by itself? If so, do you happen to know what the part number is? Or, would I be able to get a hook from a different year that would work as well? I am going to be replacing the mats with the ones from McNeil in a month or so anyway, but I would like to keep the mat in place either way.

Thanks in advance!!

floor mat hook

I just bought a 2011 HHR.
I would recommend talking to a known and trusted body shop in your area and tell them your problem, they will surely have some great suggestions or answers to your dilema.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Carrie! I will definitely be talking to one or two this week. I didn't even think about that side of things and in thinking about it, my father-in-law worked as a porter for a dealership and knows one or two guys in the body shop industry. I will stop and see them this week(I'm on vacation) and see what they can come up with.

You could always go the safety route with them. Ask them to put it in writing the reason why they would not/ could not replace the hook, then ask them how it would look if something happened with the mat getting bound in the pedals. It would definitely make an enemy of the dealer but if it bothers you and they were aware of it, it should be addressed. And like I mentioned, it is kind of a safety item, especially with all the press Toyota got about mats getting bound in the pedals.

dr_fosg8-You just gave me alot more to think about. They did say they are going to talk to one of their folks who does upholstery and let me know. But, I will be pushing this with them-if not, I am more than willing to call Chevy Corporate and see what sort of fire they can light under the dealerships' feet-especially since the car is "Certified".

they should be able to do this under warranty. Its a separation failure of the carpet.

The Service Manager said that the carpet is not covered by the "Certified" Warranty since it is a used car. He will be talking to the Used Car manager to see what he is willing to do. I would think that since the car comes with a 12 month/12K bumper to bumper warranty that the carpet should be included in that. But, I will see what they tell me when I bring the car in Thursday to have them activate the satellite radio(I put a Sirius "brain" in there and they need to "unlock" it so I can get my Sirius activated). Maybe I will be lucky they will find a way to put the hook in there or replace the carpet. If not, then it will be a call to Chevy Customer Service and see what they can do.

I would try a differrent gm dealership then. Did they not come with the remainder of the standard 3yr bumper to bumper warranty?

It had 38K on it when I bought it-so it was just over the limit there. Like I said, it is supposed to have an extended 12/12 on it-so you would think it will be covered. I will find out in the morning and let you know what they say.

If it was broken when they did the certification check out it should have been fixed by the dealership before certifying. That's what it is all about. So they either need to warranty it, which they should, or the used car department needs to pay for it. I have seen this on many mats in different models and always covered it with GM warranty.
