DTCs / fault codes
hello guys
Maybe now I ask a stupid question, but ...
You keep discussing some codes. These codes are importent for you to understand the nature of the problem.
Guys! Where you take it? You all have a diagnostic computers? Or suck the information from the brain of a car?
Tell my. I also want it.

Wow! "at no charge" = Free? Do not pay money?
In truth, America is a civilized country. If I have correctly translated.
Tell me, what should I do to auto parts stores for free read my codes. What should I send them?
You've already done it? Tell me how you did it.

The stores have a code reader, it plugs into the connector under the dash. They do it for free hoping you will buy the parts to fix it.
You will need to get your own code reader, geg. Then you can do this yourself.

So, I need a diagnostic computer.
Well, I thought so.
Then another question.
I think, i need a computer that can read codes + erase mistakes. Ideal - reprogramming (but I think this is very expensive). Also, the computer should not be out of date - with a reserve. So it be suitable for use with the latest models of GM.
What kind of computer do you recommend? What is the cost?
Feel free to explain, how for five-year child. I've never had to deal with car computers.

I hope some of the other guys will chime in on that with some good brands.
I bought the "cable" when I did the Trifecta tune. This cable is actually a USB to diagnostic port converter and has code reading/clearing capability. I do have to use my laptop computer with it, so it's not as convenient as a stand alone unit, but does have the tune capability.

you only have cable? Or is it a cable with a certain device, as described on this site? http://www.obd2allinone.com/
It's a device with a standard USB to Mini-USB cable that attaches it to the laptop...... The device is actually a RISC processor (micro computer using the Reduced Instruction Set Computing language) This particular unit comes with the "Trifecta tune" with which, I myself don't do the tuning, I only do the flash to the ECM. Vince at Trifecta does the individual tunes and they are specific to your cars VIN# and what you want to achieve. So it's probably not what you are thinking..... One where you change parameters yourself, like HP-tuners. (You can probably clear codes with HP-Tuners, too)
These types of options cost much more than a stand alone scanner. I was just pointing out that I can also clear codes with my setup. There are probably stand alone scanners that can hook up to your EEE-PC as well, for more options/enhanced display, but I'm not sure about that.
I used to do all this with a timing light, tachometer, and a vacuum gauge

Ah, the good old days. (Ya forgot the Dwell meter.
)
Geg, take a look at this for what you are trying to do. I have no idea what you would have to pay to import it but it does a lot more than just read and clear codes.
