Electrical Problem?

So I've been having some problems and I'll do my best to explain it.

The other day while driving home from work, my gauges start going haywire, "power steering" & "low fuel" lights were flashing and my transmission was hard shifting into gear. I pulled into a gas station, turned car off and filled up the tank (I really was low on fuel). Turned it back on and everything was working fine.

The next day I was getting "power steering" light but I didn't notice a loss of power steering. Later that same day when I was on my home from work I did lose power steering. Checked the fuse and it was good, but I replaced it anyway just to be safe. Still no power steering after replacing it.

The next day I start my car to find all the gauges going haywire again like it was doing on the first day. I checked all the fuses making sure they are seated good in the fuse box under the hood and inside the car under the stereo on the passenger side.

The weird thing is that if I mess with the wires, it will fix the problem temporarily, but it eventually goes back to the original problem of the gauges going crazy and hard shifting, etc. This leads me to believe it is an electrical problem and not a problem with the computer.

I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance!

I drive an 06 HHR LT 2.2L

VIN last eight: 6S642091

Fault Codes:

U0073
P0700
U0101
P0128

Here is a better way to reseat the underhood fuses.

You should also get your battery and charging system tested.

Check your grounds, donbrew posted a how-to on this https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...cations-56504/

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yeah I saw that video. The uploader said in the comments that the problem returned a little while after posting it. I'll check the grounds. Are there specific grounds that should take priority based on the problem I'm experiencing? Like ones directly related to the wiring harness, BCM, TCM, etc?

But, doesn't the fact that jiggling wires makes a difference lead you to look at the wires AND any connector that may be attached to them? Why does it seem weird?

If you GoOgle those codes the results would lead you to the TCM & ECM connectors/wires. the u0xxx codes you posted are "module lost communication" one is the ECM the other is the TCM the p0700 is the TCM isn't working P0128 means tha a temp sensor is sending a bad signal. Look for a common thread here.

This is the comment the uploader left. I don't see anything about it coming back.
"Published on Oct 5, 2013

Well my wife's 2006 HHR starting acting like it was possessed with Gremlins. Sometimes it took three attempts to start. Sometimes the gauges would act crazy, bounce from low to high, and show intermittent readings. The security theft light was lit and of course the check engine light was too. The transmission would even start acting strange. However, turn the key off, restart the car, and everything was fine. I decided to pull the fuse box and clean the connections."

Are you actually looking at the video?

The uploader did respond to a comment below, indicating that he felt the solution was when the ignition recall was done, but didn't say that this fusebox fix was a waste of time. Another commenter thanked him for the video, saying that it fixed his problems, and there have been many members here who have found that this fixed their problems.

Don's suggestion is good about the connectors. One day my 4x4 Ranger wouldn't go into four-wheel mode. after lots of research(I really knew nothing about it), found out that the four-wheel module(or whatever it's called) behind the passenger kick panel is often to blame. I thought I would look at it, see if there was a loose wire or something easy, handled the connectors, thought "well everything seems secure, guess that wasn't it". Started the truck and the four-wheel worked again!

The same video was uploaded by YardZoo (same person in intro to video)

This is the video I saw where he said "Hello, after all the work in trying to solve the issues of this 06 HHR, I can truthfully say that after the ignition switch recall and replacement that I have had no further issues of the sort that I wrote about. I believe the ignition switch was the culprit all along and all of my work on solving this sort of intermittent issue was possibly a waste of time. "

Either way I'm willing to try anything because the dealership wants to sell me a new computer for a bunch of money I don't have.

Like a replier said. Check Battery and charge system. Battery may be on the low side. My battery needed replacing (ORIGINAL '08) and my dash lights went crazy before the battery died.

You replied to a very old thread. The last time this user posted was 08-04-2016. Not likely you'll get a response.
