Does it once at almost every stop light.

No check engine light or anything. Have 52k miles now.

Any ideas before I take it in?

Run some seafoam through the gas first and see what happens?
I have been having some similar problems with my hhr, it first started while getting gas one day car acted like it didn't want to start over time it has become so bad I actually have to give it gas to get it to start after getting gas, now seems to be getting worse after getting gas sometimes take 3 attempts to start? Currently this is happening even without getting gas:-(? And on top of that has now started this weird power serge thing happens when driving lights dim heat slows, if I come to a light and break power goes back to normal. Tried fuel injection cleaner no change in the hard start... Thinking possibly fuel pump? Maybe just fuel filter? Could my alternator be going?

What year of HHR (you registered with a 1996 HHR???) - 2.2 or 2.4 or SS model?

Also, you registered as being in Michigan, yet posted from Kansas??

How many miles on it so far? Has the Engine check light lit up at all?

Fuel filter is built into the fuel pump which resides inside the gas tank for the non-SS models.

Hey whopper.
We SS folks do have a fuel pump in the tank. It pumps the fuel to the second pump, which is the engine mounted high pressure mechanical unit.

Clogged fuel filter for sure for that 1996 HHR. But for real, could be that, or a bad fuel pump perhaps.

@Whopper, why does it matter where she posted from? People move. FWIW, I Registered in Ohio, and moved back to Michigan...

I'm not sure why says Kansas. Not ss I think 2.4 138,000 miles also every once in a blue moon it does this weird engine reduce power thing? I truly think my hhr is just going to die, I can't afford to take into dealer I need to figure out what's wrong first so I can prepare. I am disabled income low, thanks for help :-)
