Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been extremely busy.
I did get the codes read in the car P0601 - failed ECM.
I have called the dealership and GM, they refuse to help. My computer in the car is also missing over 20 updates that they refuse to update without me paying for them.
I am giving up, I am out of money for this venture, I am just going to sell my car "as is"
....I don't know what else to do.

Bunnygirl - it is a 2006 correct? Well it is now 8 years old - and you expect it to be repaired or updated for free or with a major discount? Sorry, but that is unreasonable - it's 8 years old and way off warranty.
Things do break, and you have to expect that things don't last forever.
If you look around the site here using the search tool, looking for p0601, you will find references to acquiring a replacement at a very reasonable cost.

I realize that it is 8 years old. However, this is not the first time I've run into problems with GM, even whenIt was brand new.......it left a bad taste in my mouth. I don't expect to get everything for free......I just wanted some sort of help. The dealership's customer satifaction area is less than satisfactory and I am frustrated......
"I have called the dealership and GM, they refuse to help. My computer in the car is also missing over 20 updates that they refuse to update without me paying for them. "
The 20 updates are not what you think they are. That means that the wires are not connecting to update the computers data stream 20 times. NOT like Microsoft updates.
What sort of help are you expecting? The car needs a mechanic to look at it, they work to pay their mortgages, I just do not see this as a GM or dealership problem. If you don't want to go to a GM shop, I am sure there are 20 or 30 independent shops in your area that can do the job (at a better price). Go to a local NAPA (or any other) store and ask them for a referral.
Anyways, step number A) in diagnosing the code is to look for broken wires that connect to the ECM. Step number B) is to inspect the connector to the ECM.
From your posting, I am gathering none of that has been done. That should take about 30 minutes labor, and it is not magic, it is just eyeballing and dis/re connecting things. My bet is that disconnecting the connector and applying some dielectric grease to the female side would cure your ills, unless somebody has already disconnected it and botched the reconnect by bending pins.
Read your posts back for yourself, it sounds like you are expecting GM to "take care" of your car or at least deeply discount. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO A GM SHOP!!!!!!!! Other places charge much less for labor.
I don't feel like going on, this could turn into something bad.

Unfortunately I've had the same problem. I bought my 2009 HHR last February (2013) and ever since June of that same year, it's been giving me intermittent problems. It would reduce engine power while turning and while accelerating at times. At first, my dad and I had no clue what could be wrong. We got a brand new battery, did nothing. My dad said maybe it was a problem with the thermostat, also did nothing after replacing it (twice). One time, the engine disabled and I had to leave it in my work place's parking lot overnight! We tried everything from putting the most expensive option of gas in it, and we even paid hundreds of dollars for a brand new throttle body, considering we were told a bunch of the throttle sensors were shot. This was all after getting it diagnosed at different places. After getting the throttle body replaced in the fall, it ran fine for months. But then randomly, it would say "eng pwr reduced" when I would start it at times. I would keep restarting until it would start normally and it would run fine. It's been acting up again out of nowhere earlier this week and I really just feel like I'm at a dead end with this car. I don't have a ton of money to be shelling out for this car for another temporary fix.

Check the plugs to the ECM, for loose connection or faulty wires.
