ESC now shifter relay issue

"Service ESC" light has been on (used to go off) and as an experiment, I turned the steering wheel right, left, right. Yes the light is still on but now when you depress the brake pedal, I can hear a relay under the shifter console, this does not happen when in gear... Any idea what happened?

Looks like that is a normal issue. I never noticed how loud the relay was.. still have an ESC I will look at tomorrow

For some reason the computer thinks that one wheel is turning at a different speed than the others or the yaw sensor thinks you are tilted or sliding sideways or the steering sensor thinks you are driving crooked.

Do you mean you pulled the steering wheel off and recentered it?

A code reader capable of reading ABS should narrow it down. Needs to be done when the light is on.

Hey Don. Read some of his earlier threads/posts where he mentions the car having been run off the road before and suffered some suspension damage.

Everything was working fine, yes the light would come on but go off for weeks. I really expected this to go off by now. Pulled codes, all clear except the history of Ignition Ping Sensor, I cleared codes and it hasn't come back. As far as the shifter, I just never noticed how loud it was. It's a great little car with a grey fender and the ESC light. The car has taught the grandkids on repair and maintenance. This forum has been really helpful and I thank you.

Ignition ping sensor?
this is why we ask the code example P0011 or P0449
yes they are easy to work on and learn from, most of my codes were just one part or a loose ground wire or pins in the corresponding connections.

Depending on what that code really is it could be the cause for the ESC warning. Most of the engine performance codes do that.
