Exposed insulation between front fender and doors?

I just noticed that when I open either of the front doors, I can see dark grey "insulation" at the end of the front fenders.

Is this the norm, or am I missing some parts?

It's normal. There was a post about this earlier. Maybe Deb. can search it out.

Mine is the same way. I noticed it the first time I washed it the car.

Even though it is protected somewhat, I would think that it could get soaked in a really heavy rain or one of those high pressure car washes.

I have taken mine thru Hi-Pressure washes several times and no problems so far, knock on wood

I just did a quick fiberglass job to cover it when I saw it.

There have been several small thread on this and below is the response I have seen from Mike at SoCalHHR's which seems to cover what you are asking.

This is part of why the HHR rides so quiet.

I had the same thing on my '57 Chevy.

I'd be willing to guess they have even improved it over the years!
