FOB needs long press

My FOB lately needs a long press (about 2 seconds) to work. Always used to be a normal quick press and presto.
Replaced battery with a quality Panasonic. (not sure if it was a silver style) with no joy.

I had pondered being a victim of a roll-jam attack, but its been everywhere.
2006 LT (lost the second FOB)

Ideas?

Probably dirty/worn contacts on the keypad. You can clean them with a q-tip and alcohol or replace the pad from ebay.

  1. Check the battery with a meter, should be over 3 volts. New batteries could have been on the shelf for extended time, always check.
  2. Clean the copper contacts on the fob's pc board with a q-tip dipped in alcohol, scrub copper well.
  3. Give the pc board a thorough inspection, I often find the battery clip beginning to break loose at one of the three points of contact. If you have to resolder the center tab down, here is the trick to it, use a WOODEN tooth pick to hold it down, not a metal object. Wood does not conduct heat and allows for the solder to with hold the heat needed to melt.
  4. Clean the rubber pad with dish washing liquid, let dry or use air dryer. then clean black contacts with alcohol.
  5. Placing rubber button pad on top of the pc board (battery removed), press a button and check continuity of the copper contact using a ohm meter.

Yeah... did all that and it still takes longer than it should for the car to react.
