Not stumped any more.

There wasn't a change when I changed the column. It did change when I installed the used intermediate shaft. It seems there might not be enough clamping from the lower connector or not enough engagement. I ordered a new intermediate shaft but it came in wrong. I'm still waiting on a replacement.

As I recall there was an updated part to the intermediate shaft.
Not sure if they changed the part number or not.
Get the Parts manager and see what he can find out .
You sure don't need an old part that was left in stock.

The GM part number is 25834100

The rack end looks like this, the universal joint gets dry and the bearings wear out!

I've read that if you take out the power steering fuse the rattle would stop. I did it. It did stop. It rattles in my asphalt driveway, slow speeds. Fuse back in? Rattled again.

I have an '07 LS, with only 83,000 miles, it was a highway patrol unit in Ft. Lauderdale, until I bought it in May, 2021. Well maintained with new LCA's, sway bar ends, etc. See previous post for front end rattles.

FYI, I'm still looking for the answer to this issue.

You can put multiple sentences in one post.
Do you know that the power steering motor is covered by a lifetime extended warranty?
My guess is that if turning the EPS off cures the rattle the problem is the intermediate shaft, the part talked about previously in this thread. If not that is must be the rack & pinion.

Thanks for the info and for combining my posts! Yes, removing the fuse stopped the noise, so it IS the intermediate shaft? I tried shaking the lower U joint but it seemed tight.

Your 1st post says you have a 2007 LS. Your bio shows a 2007 LT with a 2.4 engine. Which car are you looking for help with ?
