Welcome to the site

Normally the speakers them selfs fail. When I'm testing radio outputs I use a 12 volt test light.

With a test light hooked up to the two wires going to the unplugged speaker and the radio volume turned all the way up you will see the test light bulb flicker with the beat of the music if the out put and wiring from the radio is working properly

New head unit? Meaning a stock head unit? I believe the BCM(??) or such needs to be reflashed by the dealer to unlock, activate the new head unit.

I had a similar problem with my 08, except that none of mine worked besides the tweeters on the a pillar. Every once in a blue ill hit a bump and will all come on. The audio store I went to told me this is a common problem where rain water will get down inbetween the window and window seal and short out the speakers. I got all for of mine replaced and never had a problem since.

Run new wires for everything and heat shrink the terminals.

my driver door speaker won't work when it rains, works when it dries out. Waiting for more than one day of dry weather (not too many here in the Pacific NW) to pull the door panel and fix it. The "leaving the key in the ignition" dinger doesn't work either.
