Glove Box
I took my car back to the dealer to have it fixed, they said that there is no adjustment built into the latch design. What they did was kinda a "cheap" fix, the wrapped electricians tape around the metal part of the latch. Well, it worked, no more "rattle".
Don't know, after waiting for four weeks to get this part I call the GM complaint center and let them know I was unhappy about this parts missing status and the fact the dealer was telling me that GM informs them the part is out of stock and they cannot get it. Next day the dealer calls me to tell me the part is in and I can get it anytime I want. The dealer sales staff was great, worked with me to order the car with the options I wanted but their parts department cannot find their way out of a phone booth. So sorry, cannot help. My advice is to visit a lot and steal one out of the demo.
But seriously for those owners with this problem (or similar)....
Buy a small tube of silicone or butyl flex. Wipe the area of the missing "bumper" with alcohol....squeeze a LITTLE of the silicone into the hole (to create some extra hold) and then create a small mound of silicone, slightly higher than needed.......place a small piece of wax paper on top of the mound and close the glove box SLOWLY UNTIL THE LOCK ENGAGES. Open and remove the wax paper SLOWLY (if you screw up and pull UP some of the wet silicone, reapply the wax paper and redo)....OR leave the door closed until dry if you wish. Then slowly peel the paper away.
MANY YEARS AGO, I used this method to create my own bumpers for hood and door alignments. I made a 2 piece mold, which I oiled as a release compound, to maintain the shape of the bumpers.
Works like a champ.
My missing bumper
Check to see the rubber bumpers are present on both sides of the center box. They support the door so the latch can be pressed. One of mine was missing from the factory and I had the same problem getting the door open. Also had a hard time getting the dealer to find the bumper.
Harlan
I don't know if it make s difference or not but I was sent a plastic piece in the mail after I purchased my 08 Panel. The letter accompanying it stated that there was a safety issue with the lid. In the event of an accident the lid would fly open and posed a hazard to occupant. (I am using an old memory, don't remember exactly what it said) It said I could install it myself or take it to the dealer and have them install it. I installed it and have never had a rattle from it.
Anyone else remember getting that part?

Saftey Recall
That piece was a from a recall When I bought my 07, I was told all the recalls had been completed. If someone could take a picture of the piece and show how it's installed, I would appreciate it. I'm sure the former owner received it, but there's no way to confirm he actually installed it. Thanks.
yep..... I can't stand rattles and squeaks, the glove box is the one that is the worst in mine. I had a 98 blazer that had a massive amount of squeaks and rattles after a couple years, I adjusted so many little fasteners on that interior that it was quieter than the HHR is now.

. Everyone knows duct tape can fix 99% of most car problems.
