Replace the frickin thermostat, and quit overthinking everything - this gets tiresome. You come asking for advice, we give it, and you just ignore it. I'm out of this one.

I thought you heeded our advice last year, I'm out! Let us know when the codes or flashes save from replacing the thermostat. They only last about 5 to 8 years.

Well guys I ordered a new one yesterday. Plan on changing out when time permits. Ive never done much with a cooling system before so I will be utilizing the Thermostat thread for help! Especially for the burping part (which is what I am most afraid of). Don't be too harsh guys; this car is a learning platform for me!

So I got the T STAT in the post over the weekend; thankfully its the new style AC Delco one. Now jumping in to this I really got to ask if I will be going about this correctly; I am comfortable with the entire job up until the burping part because there are MANY threads and posts on trapped air; etc. I plan on jacking the front end of the car up while doing the job and while refilling the coolant. My understanding is that you should run the car with the Pressure cap OFF to let the air escape while having the heat and blower on high as well as defrost? is this correct? I want to only do this once, and not get into an overheat situation. Maybe someone could make or point me to a "burping" how to. Again, I am young and new to this, but want to learn, and would rather not run to the dealer for a vacuum exchange as I had just had the coolant replaced/flushed about 2 years ago at the dealer. I want to do it because when I asked the dealer about replacing it when they did the coolant they said "oh on these cars its pretty hard to get to so it would cost an extra 150 or 200 dollars just to replace the thermostat on top of the cost of the coolant exchange".... Really? No thanks. I can see the two damn bolts holding the thing in there without moving anything... BS

Fill the system, put cap on tight, warm up the engine with heater on full heat, turn engine off , let cool. Remove radcap when cold top up the coolant. This s done while the car is either jacked up and supported on a jack stand, or with the front end parked uphill (my driveway is sloped so the front is 4 inches higher). You might want to do the burp twice and then go for a drive with the heat on, watch your DIC temperature, again park nose high and let it cool off, when cold check the coolant level and top up.
Don't over think this, it really is quite simple.
