so I noticed that there was a huge gap when the hatch is closed today

I didn't check to see if anything was stopping it from closing, but the left side seemed ok

perhaps it got bent?

I'd make sure there are no obstructions first.

If not, then sounds tweaked.

Maybe you can try & twist it back,

or make a latch adjustment & maybe that will seal it properly. (wishful thinking)..

There is literally nothing in the way of it shutting.

I even have all the interior panels off, excluding the 2 main side rear window ones. I even have the rear view light cover off and what not. (I was also putting down peel and seal as sound deadener)

I looked and nothing appears to be bent on the hatch either.

The only thing I can think of is the gate being shut hard with something sticking out on one side...

I see the hatch-panel is off..

Yea, something in the way on that side & slamming it shut 'could' have tweaked it..

Our sheet metal is pretty light. Maybe you can try & twist it back ?

How about a couple of pictures from the outside! The removed panel may also fill the gap? Does it look different on the other side? Keep in mind that the rear panel that is removed protrueds out and makes a seal against the weather strip! Just things to check before trying to adjust something that isn't broke .....

Could it be that while doing the peel & seal the hatch was open a real long time and the gas lift strut is not compressing all the way? Take the strut off that side and see if it closes.... Just be careful because the hatch will be heavy without the strut attached.
