Having issues putting in gas, dealership is insane
So I have been having problems putting gas in the car ('06 HHR), it keeps tripping the shutoff constantly so it takes forever to fill it up. My local indy repair shop guy I took it too had no clue and suggested to take it to the dealer. Dealership is saying it's some sort of solenoid valve in the tank and will cost ***$2500.00*** to repair lol.
They were kinda vague on the exact issue (of course) but does anyone know what exactly is going on? Is there any way to bypass this valve? Would that be safe if so? This car isn't even worth 2500 I don't think so no way the dealership is touching it now. I can probably drop the tank and do it myself if I know exactly what part it is I need to replace.

Ah yes. The same car that got flooded several years ago ? Never heard back from you then, so we really don't now what was fixed. Could be related to that.
Fill in some details. Former repairs etc. and how long this problem with filling up has been happening.

Oh no, that ended up being a completely different issue, not related.
This problem has only been happening for a few months or so.
[edit] ok so I talked to the service rip off writer and he's telling me that the problem is a "fuel limiter valve" that is stuck closed on the fuel pump and the tank, which ALSO has a fuel limiter valve, and that both the tank and pump need to be replaced. Lol.
The fuel limiter valve(s) being stuck closed is causing the tank pressure sensor **** up and not allow fuel in.
The tank itself having a limiter valve as well as the pump sounds like a load of BS to me. Anyone else had this issue?

Replace the charcoal canister and vent solenoid. That black box behind the gas tank. MSRP for the part is about $200 plus about 45 minutes labor. If you can figure out how to uncouple a few rubber hoses you can do it in less than one beer.
For $2500 they could replace the entire gas tank and all of it's components.
Are you forgetting to mention any CheckEngineLight or Codes?
Oh, and thanks for never coming back to finish your other story, we really appreciate problems with no resolution. (sarcasm)

I just replaced my fuel pump and fuel lines and there is no connection what so ever to the fuel filler tube !
I suggest you seek a mechanic locally who knows what he or she is doing.
make sure they don’t have kids, their putting through college or ready to retire and want a new pool at their cottage!

There is, however a vapor pressure switch that activates the canister vent. Can't pour gas in without letting air out.
There is also, the fill limit valve.
So either the pump or the canister could be bad. Either or both far less than $2500 and driveway do able.
1. air into charcoal
2. tank vent
4. check valve

Is there a complete picture of this vapor system?
I know it's been said, never try to top off when you fill up because it can go into the charcoal canister. That would be thru the vent line (#2).
Again trying to get an education on systems of the HHR.
