Help! Airbag sensor going off after installing a seat.

Hello everyone. I am wondering if anyone can help me. I bought 2 seats from a totaled HHR and installed them into the car. I installed the driver side first and had no problems with the airbag sensor. As soon as I installed the passenger seat, I was getting the airbag light on the dash and also the light was not changing from passenger air bag light from off to on. It stays in the OFF position.

The car was in an accident so maybe the airbag sensor went bad after the crash? Do I need to buy another Occupant Sensor?

I'm guessing the occupant sensor went bad and cant sense when someone is sitting on the seat? I'm thinking that's why the airbag light is on the dash.

This is what the sensor is.

If anyone has any help please let me know.

Thank you!

Try exchanging your old seat module with the new one. One of the things we have learned lately is that the passenger seat module is registered with the computer, so your choice get someone to play with a Tech2 or just use the old module.

I'm guessing you tried sitting in the passenger seat, and the light did not turn to 'on'?

I just went out and tried to duplicate your results by pulling one fuse at a time. Of the 4 fuses for Airbag, fuse #56 (underhood) produced the result you are getting.

I think that's the problem! I have a 2009 and I believe the seats I bought were from a 2008. I do not have my original seats so that means I need to get a 2009 module for the passenger seat.

You will probably still need to get it programmed, I am not positive.

I had the same problem. '08 seats had a different setup than the '09.

Were you able to resolve it? If so, how?
