HELP! I have in and out play in stub axle driver side

Hello everyone,

I have a 2011 Chevy HHR LT 2.2. Today I removed my CV axle from the driver side of my vehicle. And there was transmission fluid in the splines. as far as I know that's not normal. They're is excessive in and out play when pulling on the stub axle, the part the CV axle attaches to on the transmission. I was curious if that was a part that I can replace. Or do I need a new transmission. I have found some threads describing doing this on the passenger side but not on the driver's side. I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not this is possible.

I can provide pictures of necessary. It's just my phone is dying at the moment.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can give me any info.

There is no stub on the driver side.
There is supposed to be an inch or so of in out in the inner end of the axle. It is a slip joint. Cheaper and easier to replace the entire axle.

If there were no fluid on the splines I'd look into it.

Just replace the seal and cup , end play and fluid is normal.
