Unhappy Help!!! I need more info ENGINE AND TC LIGHT ON

I have a 06 Chevy HHR and recently the engine light and tc light came on ... They pulled code P0014, I've read on here it's either the camshaft solenoid or sensor ... I also read to clean it and/or replace it/them ... How do I know the difference and most importantly will by baby (car) mess up if I continue to drive it this way!!!??? Someone? Anyone? Help?

@mzsusyQ, I can understand how frustrating this can be trying to take care of this on your own. If you don’t get the information you’re seeking on here, I recommend getting the input of your local Chevrolet dealership’s service department.

Happy Holidays!

mzsusyQ- Is the CEL (aka: check engine light) Flashing or on steady ?

Does it still run good ?

P0014 is Exhaust cam CMP, performance problem

Easy job for the fix: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-tutorial-library-21/camshaft-position-actuator-solenoid-valve-replacement-w-pics-p0010-11-p0013-14-a-28779/ - 45 minutes or less for the whole job.

Your code P0014, points to the EXHAUST solenoid (not sensor) - GM part number: 12655421 - cost should be ~$50-70

And best to do it fairly soon, as the hard shifting of the transmission can't do it much good.

Sleeper - its steady, well sometimes both lights turn off for a while but for the more part they're always on besides that it runs very good!! This is the only problem, I'm good at keeping up maintenance and wear and tear :)

Whopper - your link is actually the one we found after I posted this and has been very helpful in understanding the problem!! Thanks so much ... I'm going to have them changed next week (fingers crossed) and will keep my thread updated :)

Doesn't the "solenoid" only apply to 2.4L, or, is it year specific? My 2008 2.2L (also my 2011 2.2L) only had a cam position "sensor", and that's on the intake side. The OP does not say which engine.

Well. As donbrew says, we don't know which engine you have. 2.2 or 2.4?
