Looking for difinitive answer:- Have just acquired a 2006 HHR. How far down from the top of neck of coolant recover tank is the correct (imaginary) COLD FILL LINE ????

I EXPECTED A MUCH CLEARER LINE TO MATCH !

Anyone ?

I don't recall an actual "line" on my '06, if I remember correctly. There is a raised box outline for a wavy line which I took as the liquid level. It's on the backside of the tank (PIA to see without a good light) opposite of the radiator. As long as it's been fairly close to that wavy line when cold it's been fine for 102,350 miles.

There is a picture of the wavy line on page 5-22 of your '06 owners manual and it's also on the top of the overflow tank cap..

There is a post with a picture somewhere. The manual is real bad at explaining it. Easiest way to find it is-with the motor OFF-look behind the tank (which faces the motor) at the bottom, about 2 inches up, there is a bulging line/ledge that represents the cold fill line. It may be easier to see if you shine a light directly into the tank with cap off at night. It is such a big tank it's misleading because the actual cold full line is so low. When I first got my 09 I thought something was wrong...

You can always use the search funtion, I think one of the big Chevy boys had actually taken a picture of one from a GM stockroom.

Thanks for your help. I've found the wavy line.
