Sounds like a dead or damaged battery.. Or loose battery terminals/cables.

The alternator seems fine, at least the strap is still in place. I visually inspected the battery and it looks good, I disconnected both cable and cleaned with a toothbrush. Since I had two brand new solenoids (intake and exhaust) at home I decided to install them. Nothing. Then I tried to boost the HHR with the borrowed car and it still won't start. There is a gasoline smell everytime I try to start the HHR. Meanwhile I removed the spark plugs and took a picture you tell me if there is anything visually wrong with them :

Any further thoughts?

*I also verified oil level. Looks good.

Could it be a problem with the ignition switch?

Those aren’t the correct spark plugs , they should be AC Delco 41-103, do you have a VOM to check the voltage of the battery, it may look nice and clean but anything under 12.4 volts is a dead battery.
Have you inspected the master fuse , back by the battery?
when you turn the ignition key, do you hear the starter engage , or just a click? Or clicking like it’s trying to engage?

Battery reads 12.3 volts. I installed four Delco 41-103 plugs and also have waited 1 hour before I attempt a new start but still nothing. I also took the valve cover off to see if there is anything wrong with the timing chain and everything looks good. Apparently I might have a faulty starter (I installed a new one just a few months ago). I don't understand how this could be my problem because my HHR did start and then 10 feets later it stalled. Two folks insist it is my starter. I still have it under warranty. We gonna see that tomorrow.

*The HHR doesn't seem to engage. Just a noise.

Ok, good information, possibly a defective starter, let us know after you change it.

I recommend a new battery as 12.3 volts is a dead battery.
