HHR noise in front
HHR noise in front
I have read and printed out the thread on STEERING AND FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE CONCERNS. I will start to trouble shoot based on it but none of the problems specifically address the issue I have and wondering if someone else has had the exact same problem. The clunk occurs only when turning right and braking at the same time. No noise turning left no noise when braking.
Yes, most common suspects , hubs or cv axle. Then there’s the swaybar bushings, LCA’s rear bushings, upper engine mount, upper spring plate / bearing plate. It could be a lot of things. So yes please take a video of it while you get the car to make the noise.
if the knock is disposable and metal on metal - first look at the right ball joint, then at the rear silent block of the right suspension arm. To inspect this, you'll need a pry bar to wiggle it.
Hub is also likely. Hang the right front wheel (on the jack) and shake it to the right / left. You will feel play if the right bearing is on its last legs. By turning the wheels by hand, you can hear a quiet sound, as if the balls are jumping over the step. Backlash and a quiet rumble are a clear indicator for changing the hub.
The CV joint can also knock, but this is the last stage. Up to this point, it should have been rattling like crazy on a right turn.
