HHR question - front suspension noise
Good morning..brand new member here ! My wife has a 2006 HHR with only 55K on it. I have a basic question, so I don't know where it belongs so if someone can re-direct me....
In the mornings, when the car is 'cold', we hear a lot of rattles and bumping in the front end. The dealer replaced the struts , but we still hear the noises. It seems to be much more noticeable when she drives to work on the morning as opposed to her driving home. I did not think that was possible, but I witnessed it myself. It seems like any bump in the road makes the front end rattle, yet in the afternoon I took the same route with a dealer tech in the car, and I did not hear anything close to the noise in the morning. I am not much of a mechanic, especially with newer cars, so is it possible that the car drives differently when it's 'cold' in the morning?

welcome to the site..and welcome to the infamous HHR clunk sounds! :)
they could be either the strut mounts, sway bar links, end links, control arm bushings, steering column or shaft etc.
take a look at this pages:

Yes, it's entirely possible for a vehicle to display certain behaviors when it's cold versus warm, metal expands and contracts, bushings can squeak and groan, bearing grease becomes more viscous, etc.
In addition to the thread linked in post #2 by skyline, check out this thread by our Moderator whopper on common problems and their fixes....
