Actually, I never had a problem with mine popping open. It was getting it to open that was a problem. After fighting with it numerous times, one of the rivets holding the latch to the cover broke. New button assembly installed by dealer, no problems since.

I'm all in favor of recalls if needed but is this one really needed. So it pops open in a crash. Won't our seatbelts and airbags keep up safe? If you aren't wearing them as far as I'm concerned maybe hitting it will knock some sense into you. Besides only the center passenger has to worry since it is in the center of the dash. Oh wait a minute there isn't a center passenger.

Yes, but what if your ipod came flying out of the box and hit the center passenger in the back seat. You have to think big on this, the government did.

Yet we have cars(HHRSS) with no brakes for the 1st 5 minutes and no recall on that?????
