Hit bump...car shut off!
Hit bump...car shut off!
Was on the highway today, driving with the A/C on (for the first time, got the car in November), hit a bump and (I thought) the A/C cut off. Took my wife to notice that the entire car had shut off (pretty much completely, clock on radio was still lit). Coasted to the shoulder, car re-started fine, no issues since. Has anyone ever experienced something like this??
Just hit 10K miles today, and this may be my second electrical issue so far, if it wasn't some one time hiccup.

Cant speak for the HHR but I had this happen to me in an 07 Buick Lacrosse. had just pulled out of the airport onto the freeway and speedometer and other gauges jump all the way up then the car died. Limped it to the side of the road restart just fine and continued my 3 hour trip and every thing was fine. Hope its just a fluke with yours.
Sounds exacting like what happened in this thread; https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...ht=engine+shut First time I heard it happen to an 08, heard of other problems similar but usually in the 06's
That happened on my 06, but it was a loose key cylinder. The cylinder moved from run to the accessory position when I hit some serious bumps. Car would restart fine. Check it out and see if it is loose. Also note that in accessory mode, the radio still gets power but the fan/AC/etc will be stopped along with the motor.
My 93 Suburban with only 53,000 miles did this to me. Hit a minor bump and everything died. Rolled to the side of the road. Hit the key and started right back up and never did it again.
I was convinced someone had bombarded me with radio waves or something...
This would be scary at the wrong time...

When I bought my preowned SS, although the mileage was very very low, I took the advice on the SoCalHHRs website and checked & repressed in all of the fuses under the hood and inside kickplate and found a number of them that actually could move further into their seats. BCM1, 2 & 3 are inside and these might be the culprit. SoCal recommends checking them monthly. And it's extremely easy to do.
Well, I only have one key on my key rings, so that is not the problem with my particular vehicles.
And, it is recommended to "check the fuses MONTHLY"???
Seriously?
So, on THIS particular brand new car, it is expected that I have to push in each of the individual fuses once a month, or 60 times over the next 5 years of ownership?
Not a chance!
I can buy doing it once. After that if there are any problems, I will be trading for an automobile that does not require such ridiculous maintenance...
