How to Service Fuel Injectors on 2.4 Lt Ecotec ?

Hi, I'm having a hard time finding a video or a step-by-step about how to rebuild the fuel injectors. I'm getting the P0304 code and the traction control error. I put in new plugs and swapped the coils around to try and pinpoint the bad one but it still throws the same code, P0304. Any advice on removal of the injectors and putting on the new seals will be appreciated.

Just pull them out, there are cups and seals. The injectors and cups may have lots of carbon on them making for lots of effort.

Rebuilding is not a good idea. There are places you can send then off for "rtesting & cleaning", but new one only cost about $25 each on eBay. Be sure to get the exact same part number.

Have you done a compression check? More likely a mucked up valve is the problem.

Thanks for the reply. When I first got the error code P0304 I went to eBay and found a fuel rail w/ injectors off a 2011 Malibu w/ very low miles. I was told that it was the same as mine. I also bought a rebuild kit, with the cups, O rings, and clips. On the bench I measured the ohms and they were all 12.5. Then I put 12 volts to each one and they all sprayed . I wanted to rebuild the new rail and then swap it with the one on the car. Mileage is 100k. Anyway, I couldn't figure out how to get those cups off and I couldn't find a "How to" to show to do it. That's where I am now.

I did it on my old Firebird and I imagine its the same process. The cups are just pressed on there. I used some wire cutter pliers to catch the edge of the cap and pull them off. Dont think the HHR injector is that much different in design.

If the cups don't just come out then work them, its carbon build up holding them.

Compare the PART NUMBERS on the injectors! They must be identical for the ECU, or a trip to a GM shop will be required for firmware re loading. It is cheaper to just buy the correct part.

OK, I'll take special care about the part numbers.

When you install the new cups they just slip in & out. You do not need to bang on them.

Thanks for your quick replies. I did what you said and I got the first one (on the bench), all apart. There are three sets of numbers, 9GRBC, 1260 987 30, and 12613163, on the injectors. Which number is the part number? Is it wise to use carb cleaner to clear the nozzles of any junk ?
