how to test remote receiver in mirror

I have a 06 HHR. Bought new remotes and took to dealer to program, They couldn't do it. they even tried a new GMC remote. Spent a hour and couldn't fix it. Could the remote receiver (GM 15835547) that is in the inside rear view mirror bad? How can you test the receiver ? Thanks for any help.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

On a 2006 the RemoteControlDoorLockReceiver is located under the interior panel behind the driver.

What are you calling "dealer" a used car lot or a genuine GM Service Department?

Have you checked the "RDO" fuse on the bcm?

Did your old remote work?

Did you get the correct remotes?

How to test remote receiver in mirror

My 06 HHR has a receiver in back of inside mirror that receives signal from remote fob. The garage I went to was a genuine Chev. dealer until about two years ago when they lost dealership because they afford to put 2 million dollars in their building. Too bad they have been in business for over 70 years. Anyways my 2 original remotes stopped working. I purchase two after market remotes, went to garage and couldn't program them to work. They even took a brand new GM remote and that won't worked. By that time OI had quite a bit in labor. so I said I would check on line and can't find any answers. I can take the receiver out but don't know how to test it. New one is about 45. Before I buy the receiver I would like to test the old one. What is RDO fuse on the bcm ? Thanks for your help.

If your receiver is inside of your rear view mirror, then it must be an aftermarket system. This is why your OEM remotes don't work.

Remote starter receiver

I bought the car new and came with remote door locks and remote start. About 4 years ago I had the same dealer program new aftermarket remotes and worked fine until recently. The garage said that sometimes you can only reprogram a couple sets of remotes. Then you can't program anymore new ones. thanks

Well, the part number you gave is for the RCDLR, and is located right where donbrew said.

The garage is making excuses for why they couldn't get this to work. When a vehicle is programmed for new remotes, any old remotes not reprogrammed in the same session will no longer work. Note that it is the vehicle being programmed, not the remote.

There have been issues with RCDLRs that quit working. I don't recall what the fix was, but donbrew knows it well.

There may be a limit on how many new keys can be accepted into the cars programming, but not fobs.

In 2008 and later models the RCDLR is above the mirror under the bump in the headliner not in the mirror.

2008 models have a problem retaining memory. I guess it is possible the RCDLR has died.

The fuse marked RDO that is on the inside fuse box controls the RCDL. I don't know the number off the top of my head but you could look in your Owner Manual or the label on the inside of the cover.

Former dealerships don't have the same corporate support as real dealerships, they are used car lots.

If the installed after market fobs then you have an after market system. What is embossed on the back of your fobs that used to work?

I don't know how something this big can fit inside the mirror, even an OnStar mirror.

Just for giggles and grins, have you tried a battery lobotomy, a full 30 minute disconnecting of the negative battery terminal? Whilst you have the battery disconnected, check for loose relays, fuses and ground wires!
Have you confirmed the battery in the key fob is good? It’s a CR2032 battery, sometimes the problem is eliminating problem causes , the easy way, cause it must be ok , it’s new!
Not always the case.

how to test remote receiver

I guess I had all kinds of false information given to me by the car dealer. How do I get to the RCDLRS in my 06 HHR ? Is there anyway to test it or just replace it ? If that doesn't due the trick. Is it much of a job to disconnect the how blowing when alarm is set off. I really don't need the remote start or remote door to work. Thanks for all the good answers.
