I now officially HATE my USB port on the radio....
I changed out the Stock system to a Kenwood with Nav, backup camera, bluetooth, ipod AND memory stick. No problems. I did the same change over in my van the year before.
To bad GM did not OEM Kenwood stuff. It works,
but it costs....
Sorry to hear all this frustration.
These computer oriented add ons can really get under your skin when they screw up.
Best of luck folks.

some of the new USB sticks have U3 software on them.. This is a partition on the USB stick-- if that drive is mounted when the stick is plugged into the radio it will give a DEVICE FAIL or wont be read at all... Plug in the stick to your laptop or desktop and see if 2 drives are being mounted and displayed in your my computer screen .. if it is-- google your stick mfg and find the uninstaller for the U3 software and it will delete the partition --so it will only show up as one drive when plugged in. Then retry in the radio in the car.
I'm assuming you referred to me when you said someone referred a PNY Attache 8gb drive? Just an update, no problems here in over 3 weeks of CONSTANT use. I'll leave it plugged in, it works. I unplug it and reinsert it later, it works still. The only thing I did differently which may help (?) is that I synced the usb drive to my WMP in my pc and literally dragged + dropped the albums into the USB drive on the pc. I've also added over 20 albums after the 1st upload in the same manner to the USB and no problems still. Hope that helps you!

So your PNY works flawlessly and another user says his Kingstons work( where mine does not). It HAS to my radio is messed up at this point.
The Kingstons and the PNY dont have U3 on them. Its hard to pinpoint as a user on here says he tried 5 flash drives and none worked and I have some drives work then quit and work again(some dont work after that)and then I have some drives that just will not work ever. Gotta be the radio.....it cant be this difficult.
I'm using the 2 gb sandisc cruiser. It has the u3 software that someone mentioned to remove. I have no problems. I just wish that I could scan through the playlist without having the songs change as I scan. I've converted my files to mp3 and have used wma files. I have grouped songs by album and just dragged and dropped. Depending on how the list is titled, I get the songs by group, in alphabetical order or by song in alphabetical order. I tried by track number and that screwed things up, especially when just dragging songs.
Update on my ebay flash drive..... Got the drive in the mail today, opened windows media and dropped a few songs on the drive. Worked like a champ. Went back and opened "My Computer" and dragged about 5 gb worth and it still worked. The type I bought was based on another post here (Thanks). Centon DataStick Pro 8gb off ebay for 15 bucks free shipping. Model number on the back of package is DSP8GB-008.
