Ignition switch cylinder went ka-put!
Whether or not a code self clears can depend on what the code is, for some codes like the one usually set by a loose gas cap, those will self clear in two or three cycles...I.E. two/three engine starts without the system detecting a problem...or an appropriate length of vehicle run time.
Other codes, like a hard misfire code can take up to 100 cycles to self clear, if at all. Things like misfire codes are set when a certain threshold has been reached, like X number of misfires in 200 firing events for that particular cylinder.

How they managed to trigger a code while changing out the lock cylinder in the ignition is beyond me, but I'd love to know which code has been set, it may or may not be related at all.
Before your boss clears the code/codes, record them and post them up here, because you just don't get codes thrown while fixing that problem.
That being said, having Ford techs work on a Chevy is kind of like having a heart doctor do brain surgery, not recommended.

If you have an "extended warranty" you probably can go to ANY mechanic that you want to. If it is still under GM, but bought from a Ford dealer you can still go to Chevy dealer for repairs.
I am thinking that they did not do the official "new key" re learn, hopefully you still have an old key available for that.

I am just happy it turns off now, the key comes out of lock cylinder and the light is out.
As for having Ford work on a Chevy. When I rescued it from captivity at Ford the Chevy warranty was almost up so the extended warranty was purchased through them.
They were prompt with the repair. Gave me a loaner car and kept me informed as to the progress. Can't really complain.
Nothing mentioned about warranty, just fix it..

Not 2007
These are two different programs with overlapping HHR model years to which they apply. NEITHER applies to 2007!
READ CLOSELY - 2007 models covered are COBALT and G5, NOT HHR! This is not a typographical error as it is specified in two different places.
I hope this means that HHR had a different supplier in 2007 and consequently no coverage is needed because our parts don't fail at excessive rates for that model year.
