Intermittent overheating. Where's the sensors?
I've been having an issue with my '10 overheating on me when at as stand still. I'll be sitting in traffic or parked and it will spike the temp at over 230 and "cooling mode on" comes up on the CID. I turn on the AC and the temp drops, so I know it's not the fan, and I hear it running sometimes after I shut off the car. I'm guessing that there's a temp sensor for the fan, but I don't know where it's at. After lookin at that and maybe a relay, I don't know what else to look at. Any guidance as to where that temp sensor is at and what else I should look at would be appreciated. The temp gauge always works too, that never goes out, so that sensor is good.
Thanks!
Thanks!
The fan should come on at about 219F. When you turn the A/C on the fan turns on.
There is no dedicated switch for the fan on a 2.2L. The ECM turns it on/off.
Have you checked the coolant level UNDER THE PRESSURE CAP?
Possible water pump failure, possible head gasket failure, possible obstructed radiator, possible low coolant level.

Check everything Don said! Also check to see if your radiator cap is good, if the two rubber rings are flat that is one way to tell you need a new one.
A tuner can change the ecu to have the fan come on at a lower temp. I did mine comes on at a 190 degrees.
