It's finally over for me
It's finally over for me. I gave the car away (2007 2LT loaded) with 45,060 for $8,000 and got this complete POS out of my driveway. The greatest disappointment in my life involving a vehicle. GM made a mistake with this HHR. They (GM) are glad it's over too. $6,000 worth of warranty work in 42 months ownership, some poor sucker will buy it and have to pay for repairs. No wonder they are dumping the model. 2010 is the end. The 2011 looked different and may have been better, no one will ever know. No more pulverized paint (with out running boards), brakes every 10,000 miles (average on this one) steering column replaced (other rattles and clunks still there) shifter replaced twice, sway bars, control arms, replaced once wheel bearing and hub assembly replaced, second one beginning to make noise, the carpet was wet when I left it with the dealer. I had to trade it, because in good faith I could not sell it in a private sale and sleep nights. Too bad the dealer doesn't feel the same, or GM for that matter. Too all the rest of you on the forum, thanks for making me never feel alone when I had these problems.
To the other members: Is it really that much of a POS ? Have most of you guys had issues of one sort or another ? I'm getting rid of my Saturn (another POS) of 9 years, but to be honest in 9 years and 140,000 miles it really hasn't given me a day's worth of trouble. It shakes, rattles, & rolls, but it's started and driven for me EVERY SINGLE TIME. One thing I've always thought about GM was, they were always predictable, which is probably the highest compliment you can give a car maker. Posts like 454Taylor's are making me say "whoa, maybe I should be looking at something else !".
After skimming your posts it looks like you never liked your HHR from the start. I usually think these posts are from an angry PT cruiser owner, but it looks like you actually have an HHR. I didn't see one postitive post, so there you go.
To each his own, I like mine and nothing you can say will change that. Good luck and perhaps you will find a nice Ford Focus that you would like more than the HHR. If you can handle people seeing you drive it...

The warranty paid for about $3000 of stuff over the 40 months we owned the car and was in the shop a total of 14 times.
The longest we went without a serious problem was only 6 months and only one time in 3.5 years.
The car left us stranded 2 times and one time was when all electrical cut-out on a hill on the freeway.
I have always had a Chevy since getting my license in 1983, and I only went 155000 miles in one of them - the rest were over 170000 miles when sold.
Our HHR was the worst Chevy we ever had. It has really put me off Chevrolet and saddens me that a brand which was so reliable for me for over 20 years has sunk to the quality level of Chrysler/Dodge and Renault U.S.
The Chevy service departments in Central Texas (Covert, Capitol, Champion) are appalling. I found out last Thursday that since all my repairs were a minimum of 2 days (most 3 or 4) and under warranty that I was supposed to get a loaner car most of the time.
I work in the industry that maintains the databases of automotive parts that are used by the suppliers and the retail stores in the U.S..
From the number of electrical parts sold, the number and type of TSB's and recalls, the statistics reflect that the HHR is not very reliable by any measure.
Best wishes to all, and hopefully your HHR will be better than mine or 454Taylor.
Fact is - it's that way with any car. Life is bunch of percentages, and sometimes you get caught with the bad ones. I can tell you that 90% of everyone on this site loves their cars and has had minimal problems. If you read the posts over the years, I'll bet only 1% are negative. I feel bad for the guys that got a bad car, but it is just not true that the HHR is a bad car. In fact, it's a great car for most of us.
PS - Only recall I know of on the HHR was for the dashboard glove compartment popping up. It was a 25 cent piece that I have yet to replace, as mine never broke.

Sarroj, I suggest you keep looking at posts on here. There are more members on here that are happy with their HHRs and have had little to no trouble than there are peole who have had a bad experience. My '07 1LT has been flawless for the 44,000 miles I have put on it so far. I love this car. Two adults, 4 dogs and 3 birds, with the air conditioner on and I averaged 32 MPG down to our place in Alabama this weekend. No mechanical problems whatsoever. The worst thing that's happened is the spring came off the actuator on the gas door.
To the OP, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. You've moved on to something else and I'm sure everyone on this forum wishes you the best of luck with your new vehicle. After all, the HHR is the only POS on the road, right?

Thanks for the positive note. If it matters, I keep after my cars religiously (oil every 3k, maintainence, etc.) and I don't beat on them. I'm looking at a loaded 2LT (about 24k). A lot of $$$ and a lot of competition at that price point (have you seen the new Sonata ?). But NOTHING looks like an HHR. I look at a Sonata (and others) and say "Wow - nice car". I look at an HHR and say "DAYUM ! That's me !" :)

And here I am over 4 years with my 2006 1LT and 75,000 miles with my only issue was the thermostat sticking. I can say unless this layoff I just started goes a long way my HHR is here to stay. Hoping that for my 2009 Silverado also.
