Key Fob 2008 HHR SS

The "UNLOCK" button on my key FOB quit working. All the other buttons work. The problem is, I have to unlock the car with the key which makes the alarm sound off. Once I put the key in the ignition, the alarm stops. Is there a way to turn the alarm off, or to make the "UNLOCK" button work. I don't want to spend the money that Chevy wants to fix it.

If you're handy at all take the FOB apart and clean the contacts that the little "rubber" pads press against, as well as the pad with denatured alcohol and reassemble. If that doesn't work, the black "rubber" contact is more than likely at fault. There are a few ways to repair it, if this is the case. I've "fixed" some using dollar store calculators for parts and super glue. The best way is to replace and reprogram the FOB.

Here's a handy thread on repairing the key fob contacts if cleaning doesn't do the trick.

Key FOB

Thanks for the link. I had already soldered the battery clips and cleaned the buttons and was trying to figure out a way to replace the buttons. Now I know. I will be buying a cheap calculator on the way home this evening. I'll let ya'll know how it works out.

Or you could try this. They work. I put one in an old remote that I had replaced after attempting to re solder it. I had set it aside for a couple of years. Someone told me about these so for the heck of it, I ordred one, put it in the old remote (along w/a new battery) and it worded.

I never get charged when I need something programmed with a Tech 2 because the dealersip I go to is one of my brother in law's clients. They do generally charge for that service.

I've been meaning to get back to this. I found an old calculator and cut the carbon pads off of the square root button. Nobody uses that button anyway. It is a tedious job, but it works like a champ.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.

I'm having the same issue now. Never had this on any other car, including many other GM products. Is this specific to the HHR??
