Key fob cleaning

My fob buttons like a lot of others gives us grief. I cleaned the grid with an eraser and Isopropyl along with swabbing the buttons too. It work but not all the time and my self start had no response. So as a test I wiped down all contact area's with a microfiber cloth. Works a lot better and the remote start works.
I did see that the height of the carbon buttons were a little low/worn. Before using the towel I made tin foil pads to go over the indents where the carbon buttons were but that did nothing.
Don't know how long this will last as it is a science project.
Sent a message to a dealer on E-Bay about replacement contact covers waiting to hear back. Will inform members about this. They were selling a different button set up for $7 for two fobs with free shipping from Farmingdale N.Y.
As a side note maybe I should try a fine scotch bright pad on the grid of my other fob and see what happens, as that one is lazy also.

The tin foil trick worked forever for me. Currently I have 2 wall mounted ceiling fan remotes working the same way.

If you get the entire case the number of buttons doesn't matter. The pads used to be about $2.00. If it has an extra button for the trunk it will still work, just an extra button to look at.

Fun Fact: Remote start is Panic+Lock, you don't need the extra button.

I tried tin foil but it failed after 1.5 years

Neither for me. I too bought the same thing Blue. But it cost me $4.50 each, lol. Maybe Canada is cheaper on EBay.
The new pad has carbon buttons much taller than the originals and they have a grid pattern on them. Wish I could see a real new OEM to see if it is the same.
But as they say of TV when buying that $19.99 thing with free shipping and get a second one free, "Amazing !"

I studied at Second City at the Old Firehall in Toronto in 1980. But I was funny before that, mostly peculiar, not haha, so much!
I got on stage for an open mike improv night, I was voted most likely to be a writer! And laugh at myself and not just in the mirror!
