Key ignition issue

So I get home from shopping go to turn off the car and get the dreaded key stuck in the ignition and won't shut off situation. I pop the clutch and kill the engine and started trying to get the key out. After about a half hour of twisting and jerking I hear a snap and the key comes out. I sprayed a bit of WD40 in the switch and tried the key. The key now goes in and out just fine but it won't rotate the cylinder. I have a tow truck coming in the morning to take it to the dealer.

So you are aware of the recall/ignition cylinder replacement notice? Call the dealer, make sure yours is covered, and let them tow it on their dime.

It's a 2011 with 25K miles so it's under full factory warranty.

Call you local GM dealer service department, give them you VIN. It is as simple as a phone call!

try this for ignition key

anyone that has this problem with the ignition key..i deal with this daily almost!! As your trying to turn the key in the ignition, AT THE SAME TIME, turn your steering wheel left and right, back and forth AS YOUR turning the key...THIS shoud turn on or Off all the way for you!!

2007 HHR Having the ignition switch replaced today. Every 4 - 6 weeks the key won't turn. Steering wheel turning doesn't help. No recall available for this model. After awhile of trying the key turns. This is the 3rd event so hoping this fixes the problem. I'll add the total cost is $270. !

if it isn't the key, then it's the shifter cable. We've had this discussion before.
