I just went threw the many key stuck threads and all were 2006 models with the issue so my guess it was an exclusive year one hiccup. No 2007 were reported on here so far therefore 2008 should be good to go

Key Stuck

I bought a 2007 HHR LT 1.5 months ago. It was a demo with 5000 miles on it. I now have 9000 miles on it. I got to work on 11/17/07 and the key will not come out of the ignition.

I made a service appointment, however it fixed itself before I got to the dealer. The dealer would not fix it, because he could not repeat the problem. Last night it started again. I am supposed to go out of town Friday, driving the HHR of course. I cannot miss work to get it fixed this week. I hope it does not stand me somewhere in Ga or SC for Christmas.

I see from the posts I am not the first to have this problem. This is my first American car in a decade. I hope I do not have more of this kind of stuff to look forward to.

Well if it does happen, there is always the manual release procedure. Make sure you know it before you leave.

Well, I took my trip Christmas and was able to remove the key manually through out the trip. In January I took it to the dealer (Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet in Coconut Creek, FL). I was there at 7:00am. They took the car right in and gave me a ride home. at 9:30 am the called to say it was fixed then came and picked me up. They changed the shifter assembly. It has worked perfectly since then.
