I have a vibration in my left front door that is annoying when I play the car stereo loud in my HHR. I decided to remove the door panel to look inside the door to look for anything that was loose. Mechanical stuff was tight but this rigid foam block was loose and the black soft foam strips that held it in place fell off because the glue dried up. I experimented by affixing some household window foam weather strip material but the sticky side is so weak that it falls off easily. Is there a special glue from GM that would be approved for attaching said strips of soft foam? Or should I use RTV or Gorilla Glue or a hot glue gun and be done with it? BTW I am new, this is my first post, and I thank anyone for their ideas if they respond. I could just leave the foam out but I am not sure if it helps with sound deadening or occupant crash protection.

 

3M weatherstrip adhesive, commonly called yellow snot, and various other names, should work just fine. Just be careful with it, getting it off of unwanted surfaces is a challenge, hands included.

I thought the technically correct generic term for the 3M stuff was gorilla snot. Anyway, it works great for this. Maybe there is a cheaper substitute? Shoe Goo works great too, made to work with urethane foams, like that it’s clear, also not cheap, but the tube is bigger.

I line my new speaker rims with Frost King foam self-stick household weather stripped to form an acoustic seal against the door card and to ensure no rattle there. Will try to find a pic.
