Strange Problem, Fuel Smell

First, I have seen the info on the leaking fuel lines that should have been a recall, but wasn't. The first thing I did was to check these lines and I am finding no signs of leaks on these lines or any other place that I can find. But in the rear of inside of the car there is a strong smell of gasoline that permeates the entire car when it sits closed up. But the smell is stronger in the rear near the back hatch and can also be smelled outside the car. But I can't find signs of a fuel leak anywhere around the lines or the fuel tank, including the fill line into the tank. So has anyone else run across this and if so, what was the problem? I really would like some help. Chuck

I’m only aware of the fuel and or vapour lines rusting out , usually in the insulation up above the axle then down near the exhaust pipe and by the rear wheel . Photos in the first post in this thread

That’s not to say the fuel pump isn’t cracked or the tank vents aren’t leaking
Or a cracked line above the tank

Although I haven't dropped the fuel tank, I haven't seen any indication of a fuel leak anywhere around the tank or anyplace else and I have checked everywhere I can find. I think I will check the evap solenoid as soon as the weather warms up a little here. Other suggestions from older posts don't seem to be the problem since there is no indications of any leaks. Just the odor. I hate these kinds of problems. I have had no engine codes and the car runs great. Chuck

When I do a search for the vapor canister vent solenoid I get about 3 or 4 different parts all looking similar. Does anyone know what part number I should be looking for? Much appreciated. Chuck

The EVAP PURGE valve is under the hood, the EVAP VENT valve is on the charcoal canister near the gas tank. Both have "charcoal canister" in their full name.
Both should set a code if malfunctioning.

I have a similar fuel smell/leak that I tried to fix with little success. I outlined what I did in this thread.

I'm still suffering from the fuel smell, which is how I found your thread. My conclusion is to buy a new tank or used one that's not leaking.

For the good of the order, to anyone sourcing new or used parts in the fuel system, there are a some differences in FlexFuel (2009+) HHRs for ethanol compatibility. For a fact, the fuel level sensor. Possible the tank. (It’s not as simple as you think; three different layers in the plastic.) IDK what else, if anything.
