just feel like I need to ask this.........

Did you just buy this car........like in about the last week? It seems like you are not familiar with the operation or functions of the vehicle. I mean, jeez, an owner of some length of time would know the operation and function of the headlights.

No harm intended

I think so, but the 2006 Owner Manual would probably have that info. I think that there is a DRL relay. But, if the headlights are on and the highbeam switch is on then you should have highbeams...... but, does the sensor agree with your eyes that it is "dark"?

You would not believe how many times the words "they couldn't both go out at the same time" are used in car forums. I'll bet if you use the SEARCH box with the right terms you'd get 5 from the last 2 months on this forum alone.

I did that last week, didn't notice even in the morning facing the garage door.

You do not have to pull the wheel off to do a re and re on the headlights. It's a tight squeeze for sure, and you have to do it by feel - but it is easily doable at the side of the road without removing the wheel.

Just make sure the rubber gasket comes out with the bulb socket, else you will never get it back together with two gaskets in there.

The owners manual does not specify if either high or low beam will work on auto setting when darkness comes (but most people would assume so ) ..that is why i thought it might be something in the circuit before the light bulbs themselves.. And its too cold outside to go in for a labour intensive job..
Because neither high or low beam work unless i use the manual override then only high beam will work.. So im going to check the 71 relay.. But there may be others??

No - 20+ posts after suggesting that you check your head light bulbs (and you ignore the suggestions) is frustrating. The people here are more than willing to offer advice, answer questions, and steer one in the right direction - but one does lose interest after playing 20 questions.

This thread is now closed. If you check the bulbs and find you still have a problem or question, please open a new thread and we will see what we can do to help out. Best of luck with it.
