With a small exception, I have never had the "smell" problem in any of my vehicles. In 2 off rode trucks I had the infamous powdery dust problem, which is terribly hard to get rid of.

But here is what I would do in your situation:

Turn on the outside air and fan to high and spray the intakes on the lower windshield (hood raised) with Lysol or other DISINFECTANT. After running the vehicle for about 10-15 minutes, I would then remove the passenger filter and again spray into the ductwork/channels (again with vehicle running). Finally, after another 10-15 minutes, I would turn the vehicle off and spray into the outlets on the dash. However, be careful spraying the outlet exterior and diverters. They MAY stain or discolor from one of the ingredients of the disinfectant.

Don't be cheap....use the whole can or more.

 

just had this problem fixed at the dealership...there is a tsb on the problem. they put some type of coating on the evap coil in the glovebox. the bulletin is #99-01-39-004c.
