More whining noise in front
Hi, I'm new, but here goes. 2010 HHR whining sound in front. Firestone isolated the front left bearing(actually-a hub assembly). I replaced, and still the whining sound. The CV joints LOOK good-but I had an idea. What if I slit it on the top to force grease inside. I know it's completely against a proper repair, but I thought this could isolate the CV jooints. If the noise goes away or gets lighter, I'll know what I have to replace. I'm just hoping it's NOT a transmission.

Don't slit the boot! Bad idea.
Unless it has cracked and slung all the grease out, there is no point in trying to put more grease in there. Plus it will ruin the rubber boot. Then all the grease WILL sling out and road dirt will enter. Besides, cv joints usually don't whine.
Bet it's something else. Have you tried swapping tires around to eliminate a possible tire noise?
P.S. Welcome to the site.

Don't create a leak where there was't one before, CV boots can't be glued worth a darn.
Some wise advice in the posts above, move the tires around, and don't discount the possibility of a bad rear hub. Sounds do "travel" in vehicles, and even the best techs can get snookered.

If the bearing was bad for any length of time odd tire wear may occur on account of the camber & toe being infinitely variable, like wobbly causing knobby wear, which causes odd noises.

if you only replaced left bearing hub, maybe its just me, but I always replace left and right axles as a set just like you would never only replace only one side of brake pads, I did have this issue awhile ago, and while replacing the right hub it did have a dry rubbing sound when I turned it by hand, just not as bad as the left hub, which was the loud whining side.
