My hhr overheated today
I think the dealer is giving you BS, IMO.
If the "acid" was eating away at the plastic components, they should REPLACE every plastic component that came in contact with the acid. When they do that, ask to see the plastic overflow bottle, the radiator side tanks, top tanks, connectors, etc. etc.......you know where I'm going with this.
I guess, what I'm saying, is the dealers have given you so many headaches (and explanations that proved to be worthless) I doubt if I would trust them.
THAT'S A REALLY LAME EXCUSE.

well I picked up the hhr today... boy did I miss it... anyways.. they took apart the radiator* (both side of it) and showed me the "crud " that they were talking about.* I was surpised by what they showed me.. If I had to discribe it I woud have to say it looked like paste.. dark grey paste... it was pretty disgusting.. I also noticed there was alot of white chauk like stuff on the side walls.* The service manager informed me in his opinion it look like sum kind of stop leak material that must have been put in the system to try and control the overheating, aparently the system wasnt flushed enough to remove all the debris.
You know if the engine had overheated as many times as yours did and then they showed me all this junk in the cooling system, I'd still be pursuing a replacement car. At the very least I'd want them to do a verified complete compression test and cooling system test on the system and then I'd expect in writing from GM that I still had a complete new 100,000 miles power-train warranty.
