I had this issue a few years ago on vaction, the AAA guy connected to jumper cables to the underhood red post for + and the shock tower bolt for - then there was enough to pop the rear hatch door, my battery had 2 dead cells and was 3 yearrs old orginal battery, so a replacement was required, AAA provided the battery, service call and instal for $135.00 tax in but that was 3 years ago

OK heres an update.. The sheriff opened the door with stick got inside the car. My panel has the battery in the back had to crawl thru to the covering and undo the to get to the battery. Applied the battery charger would not charge ,,battery 5 years old. Went and got new battery. Car runs fine but key fobs do not work, cannot lock, unlock. Checked batteries in fobs, new ones installed Still no work. Cleaned inside fob and doesnt need soldering( replaced once before with new ones) So I can drive but not lock, as the key has never worked in the door to unlock. I personally think the battery just needed replacing,,,old,,,and sat too long without driving, while we were on vacation..still don't want to drive without being able to lock.....Help??

Please read your Owner Manual, it will tell you the correct way to jump start your HHR (hint: you do not need to open the tailgate). Did you read any of the responses?

Did it ever occur to you to find out why the key won't open the door? Why did you buy a car in that condition? Would have to be a $500 discount to re key the doors to match the new key in the ignition.

If the battery was dead for an extended period the RCDLR and or the computer may have lost it's memory. That would require a trip to a GM dealer to have the computer re flashed, read large cash outlay.

Oh well, some questions just don't want answers.

dealership to reflash the RCDLR and or the computer and ask em why the door key has never worked, must have been a steering colum or ignition key lock change
