Need help from Chevy parts factory
Need help from Chevy parts factory
I have a front bumper for my 09 SS on order and supposedly it was shipped on 3/2/09 from East Lansing. My dealer said he still doesn't have it. It should only take 3-5 days to ship from East Lansing to Charlotte, NC. The parts guy at my dealer says he can't track it. What options do I have other than continuing to wait. My body shop guy is waiting on the bumper so he can finish up. Anyone know of a way to track it or can I call the parts warehouse in Michigan? I found this for contact info:
GM Grand River Assemply Plant
(517) 885-8687
GM Grand River Assemply Plant
(517) 885-8687
can't hurt to call.
If they didn't set it up with a tracking number, it might not have one. Shipping companies are ridiculously slow and it could have got left somewhere for a day or 2 until someone noticed it.
We gave fedex a package the one night, handed it to them, it was for first overnight delivery. So the next day we get the call of where is it, it was late. So we call fedex, and apparently even though it said overnight on it, had the date on it, and we handed it to a real person, they had already "shipped" out their stuff for that night at 6:30, but yet, if we went out and put it in the drop box by the curb, then it would have gotten shipped. No one told us this though, so it sat there for a day...
I have more stories then that, shipment companies and myself don't get along.

I read a thread at GMInsideNews from a member who works at a dealership. It sounds like he has a similar problem with a hood that was ordered. The hood is about 90 miles from the dealership but won't be delivered because the shipping company hasn't been paid by GM.

Maybe this is why you can't get your bumper.

I am so close to having my SS on the road, I really hope my bumper isn't being held hostage by Fedex. I'm going to try to call the factory and see where that gets me. I ordered some other parts in the same order and they all came in last Thursday but no dice on the front bumper.
Hi there,I am a Parts Manager for a Chevy dealer in NY. I also have an 09 HHR/SS. Let me first begin by telling you that GM's parts availablity has been awful to say the least. I can also tell you that it's mostly because of the state of GM right now.....they are behind on their payments to the suppliers.
Second, here in NY,our local parts warehouse(called the East Coast Bulk Center)for front bumpers is in Martinsburg,West Virginia. Normally on my orders, this takes 2 days....sometimes 3. I would think that being in NC,they would get parts from there as well. Could be that plant was out of stock when ordered and they came from Michigan......but still you should have had this cover already. You cant call the plant yourself, you need to be a dealer.....but your dealer can call and GM gives tracking info. GM's logistics have went downhill over the last few years....one of my warehouses is in PA......a 2-3 hour drive from here....yet if a part comes from there,it takes 4 days.
I wish I could call for you but you need to be the actual dealer calling. Call your dealer again....if this does get you anywhere call 1-800-222-1020 (GM Customer Service).

The East Coast Bulk Center in VA has 4 of them in stock. All you need to do is have your dealer call GM again and explain the situation, they need to order another one and have GM force the order out of that VA plant. We do it all the time. Its a common thing to do and your dealer should know this already. They can return the other one if and when they finally get it. Your in NC? They should be able to get that in 2 days for you out of that plant.
Ok, I called my dealer back and they are getting another one shipped but it has to come from warehouse #87 in East lansing. I told him to get it from W.Va but he said GM told him the closest place that has it is in East Lansing. So now I have to wait until Monday for the bumper I should have had last Friday!!! Come on GM get it together!

I just checked avail on the bumper. There are 4 warehouses with it.It goes in order like this:
West Virginia
St Louis
Fontana Ca
Yipsilanti MI (87). Now it is supposed to work in order....Like if I order it and W.VA does not have anymore,it would go to to the next warehouse......that is what confuses me as to your dealer saying it will come from 87(MI). Its a shame you are waiting so long. I could have it in 2 days...3 tops.
GM and their backorders are bad lately....I have a customer with their 2005 Equinox in our shop since Feb 3 for a driveshaft. Its on backorder and I cant get one until maybe March 24th. This guy is mad to say the least, his rental ran out...
I called my body shop guy last night and he called a Chevy dealer close to him and he is getting it from the W.Va warehouse and it will be here Friday. So I called my dealer back and told them if they can't get it by tomorrow that I will have to return it since I can get it quicker elsewhere. I even talked to the parts manager and he couldn't make it happen. Ridiculous.
