Sensor readings could indicate this, Captain!

You could just do as, suggested above, and just pop the valve cover off and inspect the chain.

But, go ahead and throw pasrts at it if you wish.

I planned on doing that next. I already have a new sensor, so I figure trying that out first would be easier than removing the valve cover.

Chances of a bad sensor are close to none.

Keep hearing a reference to the sensor. What sensor are you talking about ? There are several sensors/solenoids and such that are related to timing problems.

He's talking about the cam position sensors. Most readers say it's a mismatch between the cam and the chain, so parts throwers replace the sensor. The messenger must die!

Gee , thanks for bringing this back to my post #2 and that link!
Most common problem we've seen here is the timing chain has stretched and or the guides broke

Well, I guess I'm just gonna pop the valve cover off in the next couple of days to see what's going on with it. I was looking non-interference and interference motors and I'm pretty sure the 2.2l is a non-interference. This is a good thing right? Doesn't that mean that if timing chain breaks, the chances of bending valves and damaging the Pistons is lower than an interference motor?

Now I see what you meant by intolerance. The word you're looking for is interference. With a google search, results show it to be an interference engine. If the engine is turned after the timing chain breaks, your valves are ruined. Oh, I see your your prior post says interference.

Certainly pull the valve cover to check, it's not a big deal, you may not even need a new valve cover gasket. The timing chain may have broke, but there are other causes for what you experienced, so I'm not convinced yet.

Hope you find good news under that valve cover!

Yes, interference! My phone keeps changing it to intolerance! Can you show me where you found the engine to be an interference? My search came up differently
