New Engine

Earlier this year I had a series of postings where I described that the timing chain tensioner had frozen up, allowing the chain to slap around. Eventually this caused the front chain guide bolt to snap off flush with the head. Unfortunately, this is the recessed bolt that is accessed through the hole in the extra front casting in the head. I tried to remove it, but I ended up damaging the area around the hole (drill bit wandered) because I had to work with a mirror, etc.

I have let it sit since then because I had another car available and didn't have time, then I had rotator cuff surgery and couldn't do it. I will be able to work on it soon (in a heated garage) so I have a question. Thus is a 2006 1LT with the 2.4L and 5 speed manual, 165K miles. I have located a 2.4L at the local junkyard that has only 17K miles on it from a Pontiac G6. They want $500 for it. I would rather do this than mess around with removing my cylinder head and taking it to a machine shop to fix the mounting area (if possible). The only caveat is that the Pontiac G6 it came from is a 2007. Car-part shows it as fitting my 2006. Others have posted here that the 2006 HHR engines were different from later model HHRs. However, since this is from a G6, could it be the same as a 2006 HHR engine?

Thanks
Steve

Late 06 HHR and very early 07 G6, it's a gamble!
Can you get to the G6 engine and have a look for simalarities.
Like the oil cooler for instance!
