New to forum...
The transmission will be powertrain and the procedure is whichever is cheaper is what will be done. If it costs less to repair that's what they will do, if it's less to replace, then they will do that.
You are eligible for a rental car while it's being repaired also.

Good luck, and if they do a crap job, lemme know. I'll contact a few friends of mine at GM. But, so far, I haven't heard of too many major issues with transmissions (no more than usual for a "new release") and it's nothing like my '95 chevy diesel (injector pumps fail every 2-3 months, basically, 2 pumps/oil change) was like.
One issue that might (I highly stress might) cause it to not be under warranty is if the vehicle was not properly maintained (i.e. no trans fluid flush) and sometimes the mechanics will report that and they might not cover it (they do, after all, have access to said records). Usually, though, since the mechanics aren't paid different whether GM covers the repair or you do, they just let that go ... after all, no excuse for a tranny to fail with under 100k, regardless of whether the fluid was changed or not, in one of these HHR's or similar.

you guys have been great...
They made it seem like I didnt get a rental car. I piched a fit and the gave me a '09 Malibu off the used car lot. They even told me " We are just trying to make things right, there would usually be no rental, so here's a loaner car". ┌∩┐(◕_◕)┌∩┐

I'll do a full introduction w/ pics once our HHR is back in our possession.
Thanks again

Sounds like you should be good! And let me know if you have any more problems with that transmission ... should be A-Okay, though.
(better be, otherwise your old transmission'll probably wind up at a bench here at work, well, in the TS department).
yea dealerships down here in miami suck as far as gettin things done.........and as far as procedures.....they drilled holes in my roof and put a new windscreen in with rivets in the sunroof and said thats the way GM tells us to do it.......and also told me that any peeling in the interior is not part of the warranty(at the time i had 16k miles and it was 2yrs old). but as far as the car......great car and takes alot of punishment......my car is running at idle(most of the time) from 6am to 2pm 5days a week on dirt roads and mud and i now have 60k on it and no major troubles.
With my diesel, they told me it's "normal" for the injector pump ($8500 part & labor) to fail every 1000 miles (almost all I did with that truck was drive NJ-MI). So yeah, every 2-3 weeks, it'd be down for that repair.
Honestly, I've loved how my GM's have run, but I'll never take one to a dealer unless it's a warranty repair.

figured I'd give an update...
Dealer installed a new torque conveter & a new valve body.
Everything has been great since.
Actually we developed a clunk in the front end, I replace the sway bar links and were good to go.
