New fuel injector doesn't fit

Hi all, I tried to replace a fuel injector on my 09 2.2l today and found that the old injector is different than the new. I could get either end of the new injector to seat, but not both at the same time.

The new injector has a noticeably smaller diameter on one end, but both have the same part number stamped on them. It is acdelco 12613163.

Has anyone run into this before? I can't figure out how to upload a picture here.

I think I might have figured the picture thing out.

I'm rebuilding a 2.2 at the moment, for my mothers new HHR. What I think you have there is the injector and the injector seal. I just ordered new injector seals because everything else cleaned up and checked out ok. The large piece on the end its the seal that goes into the block. You need to carefully pull it off and put it on your new injector. I haven't installed them yet but that's why they look different.

I would install the injector seal into the block, so it is seated properly. Then install your new injector onto the fuel rail and install it as an assembly.

- just noticed in your pic. You'll also need to transfer that metal clip for the fuel rail.

Thank you! That is exactly what I needed to know. I had wondered if that end might be removable. But I didn't want to risk breaking it because I know that none of the parts stores in town have one in stock. I will take it apart again tomorrow and try to get it separated. Thanks again!

They definitely don't have any! GMPartsDirect.com has been the cheapest source for me. Saved over 100 bucks on a complete rebuild.
