man, I'd nick-name that Stude "the Pretzel"! lol
we call our truck "The Peanut Truck".

why?

it was supposed to be a 12.20 "street truck with a pump-gas peanut motor" and when we made the first few passes we knew it was more of a 11.40 drag truck...but the nick-name stuck..."the Peanut Truck"

11.50's at Pinks ALL OUT makes you a spectator every time.

Smoke Wagon- You ever adjust the rear brakes ? That really helps with the life of the fronts..

Since the self adjusters don't really self adjust as they should on many hhrs..

I can easily say, wheel bearing. Mine appeared literally over night, and having experience with off road trucks, riding on swampers was exactly how I described it.

I'll slap one(or 2) on this weekend.
I start a new job next week...at....an auto repair shop.
Last thing I want to do is pay them more than I am earning on my first day! lol
seriously though, it'll come in handy-there is a auto parts store right next door, so nothing better than "cost +" when it comes to working on my own car.

sadly, the dealership my GF works the parts dept. for gave up their GM franchise a year and a half ago. they had some "left-overs" but no parts for a HHR except generic GM stuff like clips and what not.(they were more GMC, Buick, etc then "Chevrolet" so not many parts "in stock" for a HHR except cross-over parts that were for multiple models)

SLEEPER...when i first bought it(32k miles) and drove it for a few weeks I noticed the rear brakes were out of adjustment when i gave it a good "once over". I adjusted them(love the anodized wheel cylinders). 15k miles later, front rotors were warped.
swapped them for new(sadly pads were still almost brand new, but I pitched them too). I re-adjusted the rear brakes and wondered how they could be so far out of adjustment in such a short time. Only good news was, they weren't wearing.
another 15k miles and the rotors warped again and the rears were out of adjustment. we're talking 4 months, BTW.
at this point I am thinking I need to adjust them ever month just to try to save the front rotors, but it also seems like it doesn't matter since I kept after them, and yet the front rotors STILL warped, so....

but thanks for the heads-up.

Smoke Wagon-

Maybe the self adjuster arm is not locking the pinwheel after adjustment & they are backing off.. Cause many here & me are having much better results..

I check adjustment every tire rotation, or if my E-Brake needs more than 2 -3 clicks to hold the truck from rolling down a slope.

Just sayin..

PS: Congrats on the new job !!

Noise

I have 6 HHR's all have to have struts at about 60 to 80 thousand miles along with 2 bushings. That will stop your noise. Make sure you get the guaranteed for life struts.

Here's an update on my bearing noise:

It has gotten worse over the last month since the noise appeared. Now the noise starts at about 30mph and you can hear it wind down all the way to a complete stop. Yesterday I jacked up the front and spun each front wheel by hand with the car in neutral (5-speed). Unlike when I tried this when the noise first appeared, I could feel and hear the rumble as I spun the left front wheel. The right front wheel was silent when spun. Despite the fact that the noise has gotten worse and now you can hear it when spinning the tire by hand, the bearing is still tight. No noticeable play in the wheel when I push and pull in all directions.

So I am now going to order the left front hub and new spindle nut from Rock Auto and I will probably replace them early next week (along with the new control arm bushing and stabilizer bar end link).

man...those suckers are NOT cheap.

Jim W, it's not a strut noise...
it is exactly like FAST SUV described.

I am going to have to wait. Money's been tight since unemployed, and although safety is of the highest priority, the wheel/bearing is still tight, just noisy/rumbles when coasting at 35+ mph...and it sounds exactly like "mudders/paddle tires" on a truck when coasting to a stop.

strangely enough, when i lean forward in the seat, closer to the dash, the noise all but disappears.

from NAPA, wholesale part for a complete hub assembly, with ABS is $186. My GF works at a dealer and gets them for 10-over cost...that's $200 for a darn hub.
On my Lincoln Mark VIII a new front hub was $66.

insane.

I know, I know....but I never looked.

does the 2LT have 4-wheel ABS or just Front?

Rock Auto has front hubs starting around $90 all the way up to a Timken for $113, depending
